Travel Guide: Detroit Zoo

Friday, February 24th, 2012

One of the highlights of my weekend in Detroit was our zoo trip! I absolutely love zoos and I try to see one in every city visit. To me, there is nothing better than strolling through the grounds, spending a quiet afternoon watching the animals. The Detroit Zoo jumped to the top of my favorites list with its beautiful, active animals. Plus, a lot of the exhibits were much more interactive than I have ever experienced. For instance, in the butterfly garden and aviary we were surrounded by fluttering wings, and in the outback exhibit a kangaroo cut across the path, just inches in front of us. Here are a few of my favorite pics from the trip.

{new espresso cups from Tulum}

I spent another lovely weekend in Detroit, and this trip was packed with activities. Suj and I spent a quiet night in after I arrived Friday evening. On Saturday, we did a little shopping in the afternoon (crazy President’s Day sales!) then took a trip north to Clarkston to grab dinner with friends at Union Woodshop. The company was great, the food was delicious (the deep fried pickles are a must), but what really won me over were the rocking chair seats! On Sunday night, Suj prepared an amazing roasted chicken (recipe to come). We topped off the long weekend with holiday brunch at Toast then a trip to the Detroit Zoo. I lucked out with the amazing weather this weekend. Detroit is really growing on me and I can’t wait to visit again.
