Where To Eat – DC: Taylor Gourmet

I love a good sandwich. Taylor Gourmet is a stylish DC spot with a creative sandwich menu, so I was thrilled when they opened a location in my neck of the woods. Last week, I visited their new 14th street location in northwest DC. The reclaimed-style decor gives the place a cool, urban feeling, but the highlight, of course, is the food (I ordered the “race street” and it was awesome). This place is definitely on my restaurant-list when my folks visit next month.

Trimming the Tree

This weekend the roommates and I are hosting a holiday party complete with homemade eggnog and a chocolate fountain (if not now, then when?). So to prepare, we spent some time last night decorating our Christmas tree. As it turns out, Scott is quite the skilled tree trimmer and therefore spent a bit of time revising some of my ornament-hanging choices (the secret is creating depth). As of now, the tree is almost finished but we still need to find the perfect topper. I have no doubt that the weekend will be a great success, and I am looking forward the music, friends, and “faux-fireplace” dvd at the party.

Also, the answer is yes, I did get a fourth birthday cake. It was chocolate and Erin made it from scratch. And it was really delicious.

the perfect mug

While we were in New York, Sujeet and I had lunch at this great little Middle Eastern restaurant in the SoHo called 12 Chairs. The food was excellent (I took pictures, of course) and the atmosphere was just what I needed after shopping on a cold morning. I was so happy to sit at a cozy table and sip coffee from a big porcelain mug. In fact, I enjoyed the experience so much that I have begun a quest to find big mugs just like the ones at the restaurant. So far I have not located anything even close to those wonderful, thick mugs (thanks a lot, internet). However, I did a little research and I think that the classic “Victor mug” may be my best bet. Fortunately, mug season is just beginning and I have plenty of time to track down the perfect one.
