weekend notes

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Happy Monday. This weekend I spent way too much time in the office, but still managed to check off a lot on my to-do list and enjoy the beautiful DC weather on Sunday. Our former (and soon to return) roommate, Alex, was in town and joined us for brunch at the house and a bike ride with Erin. I kept busy running errands while rocking my new favorite spring look (belted maxidress with a denim jacket and aviators). I love the city in the spring when everything feels bustling and exciting!

Happy Friday

I {heart} DC. I was reminded of this fact last weekend when I was able to play tour guide for my family. My mom likes to judge vacations based on the food, and I think this was a good “food trip” as she would say. They loved lunch at Sweetgreen and we had a relaxing Saturday night dinner at Rosemary’s Thyme. My brother, Mitch, was thrilled to find Potbelly’s, and we picked up the most amazing German chocolate birthday cake from Cakelove for my (now 11-year old) sister, River. I am sad they are gone so soon, but at least I can share photos from the trip (and finally turn my attention to overdue laundry!).

The Fam in the City

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

This weekend, my family from Utah visited DC for some sightseeing, food, and a whole lot of pictures. This was their first trip to DC since I moved here (three years ago, wow!) and it was fun to share with them some of my favorite spots in the city. My baby sister is adorable, and she was quite the ham, posing for photos and documenting the whole trip on her flipcam. I didn’t realize how much I’ve missed them! Nothing better than the fam.

MG 0009{packing a few of my favorites}

I am so excited to travel home to Utah this weekend and celebrate the wedding of my beautiful friend, Sarah. She is getting hitched at a ski lodge in Park City, which is such a fun idea! Sarah is so stylish and I am sure the event is going to be amazing. I am also very excited to introduce Suj to my west-coast friends. I just can’t wait to get there!

weekend notes

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Well, I had a wonderful weekend followed by a not-so-wonderful beginning of the week. The good parts? Well first, Suj was in town, which always makes my weekend better. We caught up with friends and celebrated a recent engagement at Lost Society, on U Street, Friday night. Saturday, we headed to the H Street area for an all day birthday party for our friend, Kerry. The highlights included outdoor seating at Biergartenhaus, sriracha cocktails at Church and State, and gourmet ramen for dinner at Toki Underground. Sunday, we made brunch at the house (and broke in Erin’s new waffle maker). We caught a matinee with our friends, Laura and Matthew, then we all took a walk past the white house and grabbed dinner at Hank’s Oyster Bar. It was an amazing, action-packed weekend.

The bad part? The roomies and I woke up to find that we had been burglarized on Monday night. Very scary stuff, but luckily everyone is safe and the intruder did not take anything irreplaceable.

I guess I experienced a little of the good and the bad parts of DC life this weekend, but for me, the good far exceeds the rest.

Weekend in DC

Friday, March 9th, 2012

It’s going to be a good weekend. Suj is flying into DC tonight and I am excited to enjoy the next few days together in the city. Some of our plans include a night out on U street, a daytime trip to H street with friends, and Sunday brunch at the house. It’s gonna be great! Happy Friday!

Happy Birthday, Scott!

Last night, the roomies and I celebrated Scott’s birthday. Luckily for us, Scott works ridiculously long hours, so we had plenty of time to bake cakes and decorate the house. Erin and I decided it would be fun to make a cake with a drawing of Scott’s face on it. Naturally, that idea came to also include mini “face cupcakes” of us. Our little celebration turned out great, and we even managed to surprise Scott. Happy birthday, roomie!!

{new espresso cups from Tulum}

I spent another lovely weekend in Detroit, and this trip was packed with activities. Suj and I spent a quiet night in after I arrived Friday evening. On Saturday, we did a little shopping in the afternoon (crazy President’s Day sales!) then took a trip north to Clarkston to grab dinner with friends at Union Woodshop. The company was great, the food was delicious (the deep fried pickles are a must), but what really won me over were the rocking chair seats! On Sunday night, Suj prepared an amazing roasted chicken (recipe to come). We topped off the long weekend with holiday brunch at Toast then a trip to the Detroit Zoo. I lucked out with the amazing weather this weekend. Detroit is really growing on me and I can’t wait to visit again.

Valentine’s Day: Long-Distance Edition

Wednesday, February 15th, 2012

Long distance makes mid-week holidays tricky, so Suj and I had to get a little creative this Valentine’s day.  We decided to have a nice, home-cooked meal together … via gchat.  It was actually really great (and more than a little cheesy).  We both made pasta with tomato sauce (but I opted for spaghetti squash instead of noodles and made this recipe, but added spinach).  It was fun to make the same meal at the same time and act as though we weren’t miles apart.  After dinner, we watched Edward Scissorhands together on Netflix.  I am not going to try to describe the logistics of watching a movie long distance, but it suffices to say that we could definitely use some technological advancements in our long-distance-tandem-movie-watching capabilities.

Sarah’s Bachelorette Party: Road Trip to San Diego

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

My beautiful friend, Sarah, is getting hitched! To celebrate, a small group of my college friends took a weekend trip to San Diego.  The two out-of-towners (Mandz and myself ) flew into Las Vegas (where Sarah, Heather, and Michelle live) and kicked off the weekend with a classy round of bingo at the South Point Casino. The next morning we woke up bright and early (thanks to Mandz’s much-needed strict scheduling) and enjoyed a little road trip to California.

The weekend was great! We stayed in the Gaslamp Quarter and on Saturday night we hit up some restaurants and clubs and, of course, insisted that Sarah wear a flashing crown all night. On Sunday we visited Coronado before all the Super Bowl action began. It was so good to see my girls again and to squeeze in a few crazy adventures. I miss you guys and can’t wait to see you at Sarah’s Park City wedding!
